BMW’s 6 Series Gran Coupe is clear evidence of the Bavarian carmaker’s objective of matching Mercedes-Benz and Audi blow for blow, and now here’s further proof – the 4 Series Gran Coupe.

These com-gen images from Carparazzi provide an indication of how the Audi A5 Sportback-rivalling four-door could look when it launches internationally in 2015.

Its arrival will beef up the 4 Series range, which will initially comprise a 3 Series Coupe-replacing two-door, codenamed F32 and captured recently in these spy pics.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe is codenamed F35, and a company insider was quoted by BMW Blog as saying it will be a “very sexy looking four door Gran Coupe model which will bring the sleek sportiness, premium image and ambience of the 6 Series Gran Coupe to the premium entry sports segment.”

Going on the accompanying rendering, it appears the stylists are on the right track, with the Gran Coupe’s tapered roofline improving on the profile of the existing F30 3 Series.

Classic BMW cues such as the scalloped flanks and Hofmeister kick in the C-pillar are all there, but the nose has been sharpened up vis-à-vis the 3 Series sedan, and the car clearly has a more premium look about it.

Whether it’s a more stylish proposition than the svelte A5 Sportback remains to be seen, but it’s reasonable to expect the 4 Series Gran Coupe will be an involving drive, based on our first taste of the F30 3 Series.
